The workshop titled "Beyond Criminal Justice" will take place for two days from 5 - 6 June 2015.

Five papers will be discussed:

  1. Laury Ocen, Justice and Peace after War: Conceptual Difficulties in the Discourses of Reform and Transitional Justice.
  2. Akoko Akech, Kitu Chafu Sana: Daniel Moi and the Very Dirty Politics of Dismembering Kenya’s Body Politic 1991-1998.
  3. Esibo S. Omaada, What is Kenya Becoming? Dealing with Mass Violence in the Rift Valley of Kenya.
  4. Haydee Bangerezako, Politics of Indigeneity: Land Disputes in Post-Conflict Burundi.
  5. Mahmood Mamdani, Beyond Nuremberg: The Historical Significance of the Post-Apartheid Transition in South Africa.

The main discussants will be:

  3. Godwin Murunga (Nairobi University)
  4. Natacha Nsabimana (Columbia University)
  5. Ron Atkinson (University of South Carolina)
  6. Brian Raftopolous (University of Cape Town)

Please note that there will be no presentation of papers during the workshop so papers need to be read in advance.

Attendance is open to the public BUT due to limited seats, pre-registration is required.
