Buganda Paper stirs spirited response at MISR.

A research paper presented by a Witswatersrand Univeristy Postdoctoral fellow, Dr. Edgar Taylor, caused a spirited discussion within the Makerere Institute of social research community. The paper titled, “Surveillance, anonymity and disciplinary violence in the Buganda anti-Asian Boycott of 1959/1960” reexamines colonial history with particular focus on Buganda protests against Asians in that period. It revisits party politics and ethnic nationalism of Colonial Buganda, with parties like Kabaka Yekka (KY) trending.
MISR Wins One Million US dollars grant for its PhD Program
Makerere Institute of Social Research (MISR) is pleased to announce the award of a three-year grant of one million US dollars ($ 1,000,000) for its inter-disciplinary PhD program in Social Studies from the Carnegie Corporation of New York.
Call for Abstracts: Graduate Students’ Conference, 2017
The Makerere Institute of Social Research (MISR) announces its third Graduate Students’ Conference slated for 28-29 July 2017 for students writing their doctoral dissertation. The conference is an opportunity to present their original findings, engaging strong archival and empirical research. All work has to be original, not papers written from secondary work.
The conference shall take place at MISR, Makerere University in Kampala, Uganda.
